ADVANCED WATERSPORTS SUNGLASSES

WAKEBOARDING

Wakeboarding Sunglasses

LiP Sunglasses was founded in 2012 by a passionate crew of watersports fanatics to bring to the market specialist watersports sunglasses that responded to the needs of highly focused watermen and waterwomen. The initial impetus was to fill a much needed gap in the market for windsurfing sunglasses and kiteboarding sunglasses, but we soon discovered these weren’t the only watersports where we needed protective eyewear.   Wakeboarding sunglasses were high on the list of kit needed for our days at the cable park and behind the boat, having lost many pairs of conventional sunglasses following spectacular faceplants. Not only did we lose a number of sunglasses to the bottom of the cable park, we also broke frames, lost lenses and put our eyes at daily risk of injury.

Wakeboarding Sunglasses Designed to Perform

At the time, our conventional sunglasses were powerless against the wipeout forces at play. Slamming into the water at high speeds sent them flying and by the time we had gathered our senses, the sunglasses were already lost. Worse still was the potential for the frames to snap, potentially leading to sharp edges that could lacerate the skin.

It was time to design the best sunglasses for wakeboardingwakeboarding sunglasses that were built to withstand high impact wipeouts and a harsh aquatic environment, including:

1: lightweight, flexible and indestructible frames – capable of taking a serious hammering.

2: padding for impact protection and lasting comfort.

3: a leash system to stop the wakeboarding glasses from sinking to the bottom after a heavy wipeout, perfected until it worked 100% of the time.

4: premium impact resistant and optically precise lenses from ZEISS, one of the world’s leading lens manufacturers with optimised lens coatings to keep vision consistently sharp and clear.

Protect Your Eyes with the Best Sunglasses for Wakeboarding

$20 sunglasses are replaceable – our eyes are not. Because our eyes are as precious as they are delicate, it is important to invest in a pair of wakeboarding sunglasses that will adequately protect the eyes from cumulative UV damage, glare, spray and bombarding insects. Even when it is cloudy, the risks are clear – UV radiation can damage our eyes and especially so when we are surrounded by reflective surfaces like water. Our Typhoon and Surge Watershades incorporate soft TPU rubber padding around the frame. This rubber acts like a fender to dampen any impact force and also serves as a comfortable interface between the face and the frame – which is great for extended sessions on the water. The other elements of the frame are constructed from Grilamid TR90, a unique Swiss thermoplastic which is light, flexible and virtually indestructible. A significant benefit of TR90 is the ability of this material to return to its original shape when pressure or force is applied to it and bends it out of shape. We guarantee this will happen if you faceplant.
The lenses are the heart of any wakeboarding, surfing, or windsurfing sunglasses, and here we make no compromises. Optically precise and decentred lenses are especially important if you plan on hitting the slider or ramp, because poorly crafted could be distorted, causing ‘object-shifting’ whereby an object appears closer or further away than it really is. When you’re powering up to hit the ramp and catch some big air, you want to be 100% sure that you’re going to nail that ramp squarely. Misjudging it could lead to injury. That’s why we partner with one of the world’s leading lens manufacturers ZEISS. Not only are ZEISS’s lenses optically precise and impact resistant, their range of base colours and lens coatings (such as water shedding ‘hydrophobic’ technology) is best in class. We believe you shouldn’t have to choose between fun in the sun and healthy eyes. You’re out on the water to have fun, and with surfing glasses & our wakeboarding sunglasses, you have peace of mind that we’ve got your eyes covered from these hazards. Improved visibility means improved performance and better timing for popping onto the slider or launching that Raley. With our watershades that is made for surf, windsurfing, or even as a SUP sunglasses, you’ll be closer to the top of your game. Our wakeboarding polarized glasses are not only the best-designed, but they also come with a market-leading three-year warranty.

Get the Wakeboarding Sunglasses that are Right for You

At LiP, we want our customers to make an informed purchase. We believe that it’s more important than ever to talk about eye health on the water. In addition to the ever-present risks from UV radiation, unsuitable or low quality eyewear for wakeboarding raises additional risks such as collisions caused by object shifting and perhaps even eye injury.

The lenses you will need depend on the local weather conditions and your personal preferences – but we have lots to choose from so that you can kit yourself up with the wakeboarding eyewear that is ideal for you.

We want to help you pick the perfect pair, so we have put together a summary of all of the essential considerations to make the wisest choice, including a lens tint guide, a guide on lens materials and their qualities and a guide on the visible light transmission rates for all of our lenses.

We’ve also created a handy reference guide, comparing each of our products – to help you find the right one for your needs. Check it out below.

Great glasses for OC1 paddling! Prescription is perfect. Customer support has been fantastic, shout out to Graham.🙏

Wingfoil, SUP foiler

Good quality glasses, I bought new lenses for my old ones too. The photo chromes are a little light for bright days on the water here , but perfect for overcast. The gold rose polarized lenses are more appropriate for sailing around reefs and turtles anytime the sun is shining. The arms have yet to break or nosepiece go adrift like Jokeleys or the discontinued Maui Jimmys.
The rubber leash and retainer system work well in moderate surf.
The lenses did scratch after three years hard use, being thrown in a bucket and tossed in the car without the case, Keep sunsceen away from the lenses and use the micro fiber cloth only , they will serve you well. A quality product designed for ocean use.

Surfings Best

This is the 2nd time I purchased LIP sunglasses after initially having the Surge, which worked really well surfing but wanted to get a slightly larger frame to give better peripheral vision, which the Typhoon does extremely well. This would be the ideal pair for this sport.Cheers Terry

I have Lip sunglasses 3 years. Positives are sharp vision thanks to polarization and hard antiobrasion surface.
To prevent them from fogging I glued 2 foam 6mm thick distances on the sides, and one at the middle - under the nosepad.
3This way there is much wider distance between my face and lenses enablind easy wind accesss to remove the vapour.
This is especially needed on colder days, but during the summer it improves comfort of foilriding significantly, as I have to observe water surface to evaluate the hight of my ride.
As I wear a helmet, wide gap above glasses is protected from sunlight

Needs a better headstrap similar to older Oakley water jackets. Otherwise comfortable and good for the current price point. Would easily pay additional 50-100 if more sturdy face fit for surfing activities.

I love the fit and that they look cool. I used them in bigger surf and they stayed on my head even through powerful duck dives. The downside is that after two duck dives they became so cloudy that I couldn't see through them. Please send me suggestions on what to do. I'd love to wear them for the summer but they are unusable if you can't see through them.
